OUR VISITOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Memorial of Auschwitz - Birkenau had 20 commemorative flagstones in 20 different languages. Before the creation of JEAA, there was no memorial in the language of the Sephardic Jews, Judeo-Spanish. After one year of meetings, conferences, gathering endorsements, as well as developing an international petition by mail and by Internet, a positive outcome was reached. The International Council of Auschwitz reviewed its prior decisions and agreed to add a plaque in the Judeo-Spanish language. There is now a need for members of the Jewish community, especially Sephardim from various countries to gather at Auschwitz-Birkenau for the memorial ceremony and dedication of the plaque in memory of the Sephardic Jews who were killed in the Shoah.

Background: During the Second International Conference on Judeo-Spanish organized in Salonika (Greece) April 16 and 17, 2000, the Survivors of Shoah and their descendants adopted unanimously the proposal put forward by Prof. Haim-Vidal Sephiha that the Memory of the Martyrs be honored by the addition to the Memorial of Auschwitz - Birkenau of a flagstone in Judeo-Spanish.

Current Success: The International Auschwitz Council (ICA) has finally decided 57 years after the end of WW2 to install a 21st plaque in Judeo-Spanish (Ladino). On April 15, 2002 the technical details, as presented by the director of the State Museum of Auschwitz to JEAA's vice-President have been finalized. This project, in remembrance of our Sephardic brothers--victims of the Holocaust, succeeded thanks to our common effort and the positive attitude of the decision makers. Finally, our brothers will be able to receive the deserved recognition in their own language! A language that was unjustifiably missing.

The Memorial Event: Ceremony for the dedication of a plaque in Judeo-Spanish at the Auschwitz - Birkenau Memorial (March 24, 2003) The former J.E.A.A. representative in the United States, today vice-president of the Foundation for the Advancement of Sephardic Studies and Culture, is partnering with the new J.E.A.A. representative in the United States, Mr. Albert Garih. Together they will coordinate the travel arrangements for (of) members of the American Jewish Community and its Sephardic segment who will join other delegations from various countries (for the) to the ceremony for the dedication of the plaque. The Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies offers a one year taught course with a dissertation component, after which University of Oxford awards the Diploma in Jewish Studies to successful candidates.

The Centre offers up to 25 partial or full scholarships to suitable applicants in any academic year. These may include both tuition and accommodation. Overseas graduate students are eligible for these awards, and alumni of the Centre include students from all over the world and from diverse backgrounds.

The Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies awards up to twenty five full and partial scholarships in any academic year tenable for The Graduate Diploma in Jewish Studies at the University of Oxford.

The scholarship may include tuition and accommodation, with a value of up to 12,500 pounds. Graduates of any discipline and nationality with a good first degree are invited to apply. Awards are made on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Closing dates for applications is on August 31st for commencement in October of the same year.

En el mes de April 2003 va tener lugar en Yerushalayim, en el kuadro del Festival de Artes de Yerushalayim, una kompetisyon yamada "FESTILADINO 2003", onde entre todas las kantikas nuevas ke seran embiadas solo 10 tomaran parte en la kompetisyon finala, i seran eskojidas las tres primeras kantikas ke resiviran varios premios.

Los biervos i la muzika deven ser nuevos, i llos kantadores o kantaderas deven ser amatores.
